The Nintendo Switch is the seventh major home video game console developed by Nintendo. It was unveiled in October 2016 released worldwide on March 3, 2017. Nintendo considers the Switch as a "hybrid" console but designed primarily as a home console by inserting the main onto a docking station and connect to a television. In addition, it can be removed from the dock and used similarly to tablet computer through its LCD touchscreen, or placed in a standalone tabletop mode playable by several people.

Nintendo reported that the Switch was the fastest-selling console in the company's history. In the UK, the Switch had sold roughly 80,000 units during its opening weekend. In Spain, the Nintendo Switch sold about 45,000 units in three days and became the most successful video game console launch in the country's history. In Japan, the first-weekend sales exceeded 330,000 units. The analysis firm Super data estimated that by March 14, 2017, 1.5 million Switch units had been sold worldwide and was on track to meet its expected 2 million sales for March.
3. Other controllers and accessories
The Nintendo Switch supports a wide array of additional accessories. The Switch is part of a large ecosystem of devices. A charging grip is available for the Joy-Con, which provides a means to attach a USB-C cable for power. Nintendo offers a Joy-Con Wheel, a small steering wheel-like unit that a Joy-Con can slot into, allowing it to be used for racing games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Standalone Docks are available, which include the power adapter and HDMI cable.
